Silent reconstructs a recurring childhood nightmare: a snake beneath my bed. Each night, I wrapped myself tightly in the blanket, too afraid to move—terrified that any disturbance might awaken it. The image shows a bed and the faint form of a snake emerging below, rendered in a blurred halftone. The typography blends into this texture, using similar tones to evoke a fear born in darkness—unspoken and unresolved.
On the reverse side of the piece is a sharply focused version of the same image. It represents a retrospective gaze—a rational, adult mind revisiting a childhood terror. In clarity, we expect understanding. But here, the fear doesn’t dissipate; it simply becomes more silent, more surreal.
